According to Autocar, Germany, Stuttgart-based luxury car giant Mercedes-Benz is one of the companies that adopts this strategy. Unlike important brands such as McLaren, Volkswagen and Audi, Mercedes doesn’t believe that synthetic fuels can be an alternative to the fossil fuels we use today, and Mercedes doesn’t see this type of fuel as a ‘sustainable’ or ‘safe’ solution. “First of all, we have made a clear decision that our goal will be electricity,” said Markus Schafer, the head of the German giant, which has recently produced cars using hybrid powertrains such as the AMG GT 53 and GLE-Class SUV. Mercedes wants to consolidate its position in the automotive world of the future: While most automakers invest millions of dollars in researching and developing new electric vehicles, some companies have other plans. One of them, McLaren, preferred to develop a synthetic fuel option for the survival of the internal combustion engine rather than allocating its resources to electric cars. Even if synthetic fuels are a realistic alternative, it is clear that the future will be built on electric cars. At this point, Mercedes is also taking some steps to take its share of the future’s cake. The advancement of greener technology at this point is undoubtedly a fact that it will have positive consequences for the environment, although it will not help companies generate high revenues in the near future. Stating to Autocar in his statements, Schafer also emphasized that they will continue to develop new platforms and follow the demands of users and governments.
