According to the guidelines imposed by the GSI, there are no requirements that exclude Huawei’s participation from the negotiations to take care of the infrastructure of the next generation of mobile connectivity in the country. No security-related restrictions were found, for example, but there are concerns about the matter: according to the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, suppliers that experience data leakage incidents will be held responsible for lawsuits. Understand the soap opera The presence or absence of Huawei in the 5G auction in Brazil was a subject that seemed far from being finalized. On the one hand, the Chinese company is the leader in telecommunications infrastructure and is usually the best alternative in terms of cost-benefit. On the other hand, the United States government, which maintains good relations with the Brazilian, campaigned for the manufacturer to be barred – which was even taken into account by the national authorities. The reason is the current trade war between the U.S. and Huawei over charges by Americans that the company practices espionage at the behest of the local government and installs vulnerabilities in its network equipment. The brand has always denied the actions. The 5G auction in Brazil, which will separate the band shares between the operators and direct the company responsible for supplying the network, should only happen in 2021.
