Based on Android 10, EMUI was the alternative developed by Huawei against trade sanctions imposed by the U.S. government, which prohibit negotiations between U.S. companies and the Chinese manufacturer. The promotional poster shows a cruise sailing on a crystal blue sea followed by the phrase “Wisdom, unlimited wonder” (in free translation). The number 10 gets a big highlight, probably alluding to Google’s Android 10. Although the operating system receives a new look and more tools, Google applications will not be installed at the factory in any version of the flagships. Since the ban, Huawei has developed its own “ecosystem” of apps, but it does not prevent manual installation of essential Google apps – even if they don’t work properly. Furthermore, the update from EMUI 10 to EMUI 10.1 is not a surprise for the launch of the Huawei P40. Since the announcement of the Huawei P20, the supplier has maintained a tradition of introducing new generations of its flagship accompanied by a software update normally focused on the introduction of native tools and modifications to the interface. There is still no detailed information about the update of the operating system, nor which other phones from the manufacturer will receive the update.
